Sustainability & Environmental
Since 2003 our in-house energy and environmental specialists have worked side by side with our design team to ensure that early design decisions are taken to integrate energy efficient measures into the project from the outset, using passive environmental design principles and ‘fabric-first’ approach before looking towards renewable technologies.
Our Sustainable Development Model forms part of our Environmental Management System and helps us to ensure that all aspects of sustainability – in its widest sense – are considered during design development.
In addition SAP, EPC and Code for Sustainable Homes services, we are also able to provide energy statements and to develop strategies for a particular development to meet its environmental and sustainability targets.
Code for Sustainable Homes
The Code for Sustainable Homes (CfSH) is the national standard for the sustainable design and construction of new homes.
It aims to reduce carbon emissions and promote higher standards of sustainable design above the current minimum standards set out by the building regulations.
CfSH assessments are required for all developments funded by the Homes and Communities Agency and are also increasingly being required by Local Authorities as a planning condition.
Lancaster Maloney Limited have been licensed CfSH assessors since the introduction of the Code in 2007 and undertake assessments for registered providers, contractors and private developers. Our approach is different in that we lead the process, participating in design development and delivering the most cost effective Code compliance solution having regard to Client brief and end-user needs. We have successfully assisted RP’s in obtaining HCA waivers where compliance with the Code’s mandatory elements proves cost prohibitive.
SAP Calculations & Energy Performance Certificates
The Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP) is the UK Government’s recommended method system for measuring the energy rating of residential dwellings. It calculates the typical annual energy costs for space/water heating, and lighting. The CO2 emissions are also calculated. It is the basis for checking new dwellings for compliance with Approved Document L1 of the Building Regulations.
Lancaster Maloney Ltd is accredited by the Stroma Certification and the BRE to calculate SAP ratings and to produce Energy Performance Certificates for newly constructed dwellings.
